Відвідування покійного буде у п’ятницю, 16 лютого 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm у погребника Whalen & Ball Funeral Home 168 Park Avenue Yonkers, NY, 10703, a парастас буде о 7:00 pm.

Dear Parishioners and Guests,
We share the sad news that on Friday, February 9, 2024, our former parishioner Svyatoslav Makarenko passed away at the age of 70.
Svyatoslav was born on March 10, 1953 in Philadelphia in the family of Boris Makarenko and Lidia Ikhtiarova. From early childhood, Svyatoslav began to learn from his father the knowledge of the traditions and canons of Byzantine iconography. As a teenager, Svatoslav began working in churches, while studying the basics of monumental art.
In 1974, the deceased graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. And in 1976, together with his father, he opened "Makarenko Studios" (now "Ecclesiastical Art & Design"). Svyatoslav and his father designed and finished the interiors of cathedrals and churches in the United States, Canada and Australia.
In 1977, Svyatoslav met the love of his life - Oksana Ferenc. The couple married on October 3, 1981 in New York and settled in Yonkers, where they had seven children. Unfortunately, in January 1994, Svyatoslav lost Oksana.
Svyatoslav passed on knowledge of church art to his children, who worked alongside him in cathedrals and churches in their teens and youth. Svyatoslav worked together with his daughter Ruslana for the last 17 years. Together, they continued the work of "Makarenko Studios" and created iconography and artwork in numerous churches throughout North America.
Sviatoslav leaves in deep sorrow: his children Rostyslav, Vsevolod, Boyan, Ruslana, Zoryan, Yaremiya, and Milan and their families; his brother Ӏhor Makarenko with his family; and nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be Friday, February 16, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, at 168 Park Avenue Yonkers, NY, 10703, with a panakhyda at 7:00 pm.
Visitation and farewell will be held at St. Andrew's Memorial Church on Saturday, February 17, at 1-2 pm. The funeral liturgy will be on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church, 280 Main Street, South Bound Brook, NJ. After the funeral, a luncheon will be served at the Ukrainian Cultural Center or the cemetery hall.
We send our deepest condolences to the family. Eternal Memory to Him!
